The American Contract Bridge League has developed a series of bridge books for new players and experienced players who would like to review the basics and improve their games. The original author of the series was Audrey Grant, a Canadian educator and world famous bridge teacher, wo calls herself an authority on simplicity. She has an uncanny knack for teaching people to play bridge, the most popular game on the planet. Grants passion is teaching. In the original series of books - Bidding (Club Series), Play of the Hand (Diamond Series), Defense (Heart Series), Commonly Used Conventions (Spade Series), and More Commonly Used Conventions (Notrump Series) - she made it easy to learn the game of bridge and to improve the knowledge and skills of the student.
The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), with more than 160,000 members in Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the United States, is the main sanctioning body for organized bridge in North America. It sponsors more than 1,100 bridge tournaments a year and has more than 3,200 affiliated bridge clubs. In 2006, the ACBL decided to update its bridge series books to include the latest bridge ides and philosophy and to complement the Learn to play Bridge software written by bridge champion Fred Gitelman.
Betty Starzec was selected to do the work on the update project. Betty has taught bridge since 1985 in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Japan, in addition to the United States. She is an ACBL five-star teacher, a member of the American Bridge Teacher Associations Master Teacher Committee, a Senior TAP Trainer and the creator of the Unit Growth Program and other ACBL seminars.
This series of bridge books allows the reader to have fun while learning the fundamental concepts of modern bridge bidding, play and defense - the game for a lifetime!
